May 3, 2026: Battle of Dubienka – Defending the Constitution of 1792.

This year, we celebrated the May 3rd holiday in a unique way at Poland’s only reenactment of the “Battle of Dubienka – Defending the Constitution of 1792.” Our reenactors participated in this event, demonstrating an 18th-century artillery battery in action.

On July 18, 1792, one of the most symbolic battles in defense of the Constitution of May 3 took place on the Bug River—the Battle of Dubienka. Approximately 5,000 soldiers of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, under the command of Tadeusz Kościuszko, faced a Russian army of over 20,000 led by General Mikhail Kachovsky. Despite the enemy’s massive numerical advantage, Polish forces successfully repelled successive attacks for several hours thanks to field fortifications and the skillful use of the terrain.

Although the decision to retreat was eventually made, the soldiers’ conduct went down in history as a symbol of the struggle against a superior opponent—one of determination, discipline, and sacrifice. The reenactment took place on the exact site where the actual battle was fought in 1792.
